Toledo
A view of Toledo from the terrace of the Parador.
The building in the sun is the Alcázar, and the large spired building
in the middle left is the Catedral. Toledo is a great tourist town, and
rated by most visitors as one of their favorite places in Spain. El Greco's
masterpiece is in a small chapel here. The legendary Toledo steel is still
for sale in the city, mostly as cutlery, but also as swords, dirks, and
daggers.
Zooming in on the Alcázar. This was completely
leveled in the Spanish civil war, and I mean down to rubble. Rebuilt to
match the original, it has a great museum tour, mostly about weapons and
other military stuff.
The main entrance to the Catedral. It was a day
of the local Carnival, which was associated with the Catedral, but in what
way was not clear. It is apparently a celebration leading up to Easter.
Some of the Carnival participants, most all of
whom were costumed this way. The Nixon masks were gruesome, but fortunately
for us, Warren Christopher isn't well known in Spain.
Two worried escapees from the alcázar.
