The countryside of Castile from atop the wall.
One short section of the wall can be walked on, for a small fee.
The Plaza de Santa Teresa in Ávila, visible
from the parapets atop the wall. This is the main plaza in the town.
One local food favorite is the "yemas de SantaTeresa",
or candied egg yolks.
A close-up view from outside the wall. It is one and a half miles long and the entire outer perimeter can be walked or driven around.
The four "Toros de Guisande" southeast of Avila
near San Martin. There are 17 sites in Castile with similar statues, but
this is the most famous, being the spot where the rulers of Spain met in
the 1400's to plan the strategy for driving the Moors from Spain.
La jefa standing next to one of the "toros" to help the viewer gage the size of these Celtic creations.
